The vessel is shaped as a pregnant woman holding or massaging her belly. Her body resembles that of a
female hippo or of the goddess Taweret, the protector of pregnant women and newborns.
Such vessels were used to store aromatic ointments against skin stretches that often occur during
pregnancy. Unfortunately, the exact recipe of this medication is lost, but it included precious ben oil
extracted from horseradish tree – a bush that grew in Syria.
