On the reverse is a paper label bearing the picture's inventory number and the following inscription: Palma Giovane, The Holy Family (copy).
The Pushkin Museum acquired this picture as a work possibly by Jacopo Palma the Younger, but the correct attribution was arrived at by V.E.Markova. This canvas from the Pushkin Museum's collection is distinguished by its extremely high level of painterly skill. Leonardo Corona, who in his early years made a thorough study of Titian's works, belonged in his mature period to a galaxy of painters from the late stage of the Mannerist movement, who adhered faithfully to the traditions of Jacopo Tintoretto. Large-scale works painted for Venetian churches predominate in the artistic legacy of this master.
