The heroic-epic perception of nature and man found its most perfect embodiment in the artist's works of his Greenland period. Most of the Greenland pictures are strictly monochrome: restrained, austere and cold. Kent's painting records the countryside of "land's end" objectively: endless space, ocean, glaciers and precipitous cliffs. They are the bleakest places on earth.
