Although there are no known variants or repetitions of this composition in the work of Palma, for the pose of Mary Magdalene a number of close parallels can be found, particularly among the artist's late works painted in the second decade of the 17th-century. The figure of Christ wrapped in a shroud is shown in the same pose in the painting The Dead Christ supported by Three Angels from the Gallery of the Academy (Venice); a similar motif involving the movement of angels with radiant up-turned wings is also to be found there.
