The 1890s are rightly considered the peak of Pissarro's artistic achievements. After returning to Paris from Eragny he settled in the Hôtel du Louvre. From his hotel window he had a splendid view of the Avenue de l'Орérа and the Place du Théâtre Français. In ten weeks he produced two series of paintings on this motif. The master observed how different the townscape looked depending on changes in the weather. In this picture he shows the beauty and poetry of the town, flecked with silver in a haze of wet snow. Pissarro's technique attains true virtuosity here: the small dynamic brushstrokes create the effect of the air 'moving'.
