Bonnard, Pierre
Mirror above a Washstand. 1908

In 1907-J908 Bonnard worked on a series of paintings usually showing the same interior with a nude and a mirror over a washstand. The interior and objects painted on the canvas are found in the space "behind the looking glass", on the one hand, and the real world in which the spectator is standing, on the other. This canvas was greatly admired by the Russian artist Valentin Serov when it hung in the gallery of the collector Ivan Morozov.
