Rodin, Auguste
Portrait of Gustav Mahler. 1909

Gustav Mahler was an Austrian composer and conductor. This sculpture was formerly in the collection of the well-known conductor Sergei Alexandrovich Kusevitsky. In his work on portrait busts the sculptor paid considerable attention to the expressiveness of the face, accentuating the eyes, lips and arched eyebrows. Mahler's head personified the very idea of creativity for Rodin.
