This slightly reduced replica of the terracotta sculpture in the Rodin Museum in Paris was executed in marble in Rodin's studio by his pupil Emile Bourdelle. The sculpture was intended for the Gates of Hell ensemble. It was acquired in Paris by Mikhail Morozov, the elder brother of the famous collector.
