This large terracotta relief depicting a traditional subject — Virgin and Child — was purchased for the Berlin museums in Florence in 1879 and, according to some reports, originates from a monastery there. An intricate architectural frame gradually turning into a floral decor made a whole with the figures (after 1945 the relief was broken, but most of the fragments survived). The relief used to be coloured; the paint had been missing already by the 19th century.
