A terracotta statuette of Mercy (Caritas) and Child was acquired for the Berlin Museums in 1889 in Florence. It belongs to a great number of similar figures of Mother and Child or Mercy (Caritas) and Children and is associated with the Master of the Unruly Children, a symbolic name first introduced by Wilhelm von Bode. According to Bode, this unknown sculptor was part of Donatello's circle (c. 1386-1466).
