A small yet monumental figure of a monk dressed in a Franciscan robe and holding a book in a cover with fasteners resembles the characteristic style of Tino di Camaino, a master who was influenced by his more famous contemporary Giovanni Pisano. Small figures of this type were parts of monumental tombstones, of which the master made a lot in Florence between 1321 and 1324.
