Mino da Fiesole

Allegory of Faith. Before 1879

Carrara marble
130×46,5 cm
Relief
Берлин Инв.№ 99
ЗС-36

Acquired in 1878 by the museums of Berlin from Stefano Bardini in Florence, this unfinished marble relief was set to depict the Allegory of Faith — a woman holding a crucifix and a chalice. Its face type as well as the characteristically angular folds of the garment hint at the style of Mino da Fiesole, an Italian Renaissance sculptor favoured in the 19th century.
