In 2020, the list of The Pushkin Museum locations was extended to include six National Center for Contemporary Art (NCCA) branches across Russia — in Vladikavkaz, Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint Petersburg and Tomsk — each of them involved in developing social and cultural environment, providing support for artists and local artistic initiatives, and leading educational activities.
This merger is aimed at creating and developing a new creative environment on a regional scale, with a special focus on local unique identity, as well as incorporating Russian contemporary art into a global context.
Some of major projects of The Pushkin Museum branches include The Innovation State Contemporary Art Prize, Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art, NEMOSKVA platform, Curatorial Forum in St. Petersburg, Vasari festival of texts on art, Alanica festival in Vladikavkaz, Sound Around sound art and experimental music festival, and others.
