Session ‘Image / Thinking through Images’

With the emergence of the moving image in the 20th century, non-linear narrative and thinking in pictures started to prevail (according to Gilles Deleuze, cinema is the philosophy of images). Jean-Luc Godard creates ‘L'histoire du cinema’, turning to an internal associative mechanism of personal experience. In this film, the narrative is formed of fragments of hundreds of movies and is organized around a research in a media archive. There is no place for linear narrative anymore. Spatial and temporal joints existing in the mind of the artist now affect the image itself, becoming a part of the perception of this image. A sequential way of perceiving the world changes to synchronous, and we begin to perceive the image as a multi-sensory one, affecting all the senses.
