“Inclusive Festival” in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts

From September 25 to October 1 the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts will host "Inclusive Festival", which will unify events, intended for the visitors with special needs, museum professionals and everyone willing to participate. Access to classes, plays and concerts are free with prior online registration.

Since September 2016, the Pushkin Museum has implemented the programme "Accessible Museum", dedicated to creating a comfortable environment for the visitors with limited capabilities. This museum programme has included the exhibition "To see the unseen"; the inclusive festival "Fridays at the Pushkin Museum"; the launches of exclusive audio guides and guided tours.

The museum collection provides an opportunity to encounter the world's artistic culture to all the visitors, including adults and children with special needs, and is used for art therapy classes and individual guided tours.

Part of "Inclusive Festival" in the Pushkin Museum will consist of a scientific conference, dedicated to the problem of forming accessible environment in a museum space. The conference will look at the themes, connected to the development of inclusivity in contemporary museum, to providing access to its architecture and content, and also to creating special events.

September 25, Monday

Main Building, Italian courtyard

11:00 – 12:00. Opening of the "Inclusive Festival", Play "Live paintings" by the deaf-blind actors of theatre-school "Inclusion". Registration via the link.

September 26, Tuesday

Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art

10:00 – 11:00. Guided tour of the permanent exhibition for children with cognitive particularities. Lead by Varvara Zamahaeva, Research Fellow of the Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American.

12:00 – 13:00. Workshop for blind visitors "His Majesty Chair". Lead by Irina Skoptsova, Junior Research Fellow of the Department of Old Masters art. Registration via the link.

13:00 – 14:00. Workshop for professionals "How to prepare a guided tour for the visitors with Autism Spectrum Disorders". Lead by Alexander Sorokin, Senior Research Fellow of Scientific Laboratory at Federal Resource Center for Organization of Comprehensive Support to Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Why do we embark on a journey as soon as we enter a museum? How do we understand, where we are? We will talk about unusual and important objects from the Museum's collection, by making a journey of thousand years in just several steps.

How were children portrayed in different time periods? We will try to follow how the attitude towards children had been changing since the Ancient times to the Modern era. You will find out, who are the putti, what is the difference between the representation of Christ in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and why ice on a painting by Bruegel is cracking. We will try to understand what meanings of the image of a child appeared in art.

What will happen if you erase all the colors from the painting? It is indeed possible?
